Kitchen Remodeling Custom Cabinetry

Built to the room, in any wood and any color.

Silicon Valley Kitchen & Bath Co. designs and builds custom cabinetry from our office in Campbell, serving the South Bay and the Bay Area. Our cabinets are built to the room rather than to a catalog: flush inset, face frame or frameless construction, with boxes, doors and drawer boxes in any wood species, stained or painted in any Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams color. One design-build team draws them, builds them and installs them with the rest of the kitchen.

When custom beats a stocked line

Stocked and semi-custom cabinets come in 3-inch width increments, a fixed set of depths, and a catalog of doors and colors. That is fine for a rectangular room with square corners. It is not fine for an out-of-square wall, a ceiling that is not level, a window that lands where a cabinet should, or a flush inset look that a modular line cannot do. Custom also wins when you are matching existing cabinetry elsewhere in the house, or when a tall pantry or a built-in needs a depth no catalog offers. We will tell you plainly when a semi-custom line is the smarter choice.

Three ways to build a box

Frameless cabinets are boxes with the doors hung directly on the sides, which gives the widest openings and a clean modern face. Face-frame cabinets add a hardwood frame to the front of the box and the doors overlay it; this is the traditional American construction and the stiffer box. Flush inset sets the doors and drawer fronts inside the frame, flush with its face, with a fine reveal all around. Inset is the most demanding to build and fit because every gap shows, and it is the look most people mean when they say custom.

How the process runs

It starts with measured drawings of the room, then elevations of every run showing each box, door, drawer and filler. From those we build a sample door in your species and finish, stained or painted, and you approve the color on wood, not on a chip. Our base level is prefinished maple, with other species and finishes from there. Only after the drawings and the sample are signed off does the shop cut anything. Homeowners sometimes want to skip the sample door to save a week; it is the one step that catches a finish that looked right on screen and wrong in the room.

Questions we get

Do you build custom cabinets in Campbell and the South Bay?
Yes. Our office is at 2272 Camden Avenue in Campbell, and we design and build custom cabinetry in Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, San Jose, Cupertino and across the Bay Area as part of our design-build kitchen and bath remodeling. We hold California CSLB License #975092 and have been licensed since 2012.
What wood species can you build cabinets in?
Any species. Prefinished maple is our base level, and boxes, doors and drawer boxes can be built in other woods for stain or paint. Paint is available in any Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams color.
What is the difference between inset, face frame and frameless?
Frameless hangs the doors on the box itself for the widest openings and a flat modern face. Face frame adds a hardwood frame to the box front with doors overlaying it. Flush inset sets the doors inside that frame, flush with its face, which is the most exacting to build and the most traditional look.
How long do custom cabinets take?
Drawings and sample approval typically take a few weeks, and shop time after approval is typically several more weeks before installation; the total varies with the finish and the size of the job. We schedule the rest of the kitchen around the delivery date.
Can you match the cabinets in the rest of my house?
Yes, that is one of the main reasons to go custom. We match the construction, door profile, species and finish so the new run reads as original, and we build a sample door to check against the existing cabinets before the shop runs the order.
