Trade the tub you step over for a shower you walk into.
Silicon Valley Kitchen & Bath Co. converts bathtubs into tiled walk-in showers across the Bay Area from our office in Campbell. A real conversion replaces the drain, valve, waterproofing, tile and glass; it is not a liner fitted over the old tub. We handle design, the plumbing permit and construction with one team.

What a proper conversion includes
A tub drain is smaller than a shower drain and sits in the wrong place, so the plumbing under the floor changes. The walls come down to the studs so new waterproofing can run continuously from the floor up past the showerhead. Then the shower is tiled and glazed like any shower we build. A standard 60-inch tub alcove makes a comfortable walk-in shower with no change to the room layout.
What we find when the tub comes out
In Bay Area homes from the 1950s through the 1970s, removing a tub often exposes old galvanized pipe, a failing drain or water damage in the subfloor. We price the likely conditions up front and show you anything unexpected before it is covered up again.
Should you keep a tub?
If this is the only tub in the house, think about resale: families with small children usually want one. If there is another tub elsewhere, converting a hall or primary bath to a shower is one of the most used upgrades we build.
Questions we get
- What affects the price of a tub-to-shower conversion?
- Mostly the drain and plumbing work, the tile and glass you choose, whether the shower is curbless, and what we find once the tub is out. We give a fixed quote after a site visit.
- Is that the same as a one-day bath conversion?
- No. One-day conversions fit an acrylic liner over or in place of the tub. We rebuild the shower with new plumbing, waterproofing and tile, which costs more, takes longer and lasts far longer.
- Do I need a permit to replace a tub with a shower?
- In most Bay Area cities, yes. Changing the drain and valve is plumbing work that requires a permit. We handle the application and inspections.
- Do you do tub-to-shower conversions in Campbell and San Jose?
- Yes. We are based in Campbell and convert tubs to showers in San Jose, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino and throughout the Bay Area. CSLB License #975092, licensed since 2012.
