Design-Build Whole-Home Remodels

The whole house, one team, one plan.

Silicon Valley Kitchen & Bath Co. remodels whole homes from our office in Campbell, serving the South Bay and the Bay Area. A whole-home remodel takes the kitchen, the baths, the systems, the floors, the windows and the layout on together under one design-build contract, so the team that draws the plan is the team that sequences the trades, handles the permit process with your city and builds it.

Systems first, finishes last

A whole-home remodel is sequenced from the inside out. While the walls are open we replace what you will never want to open them for again: the electrical panel and wiring, the supply and drain plumbing, the ductwork, and the insulation and air sealing that make an older house comfortable. Then the structural changes: beams where a wall comes out, new headers, foundation repairs. Only then the framing for the new layout, drywall, cabinets, tile, floors and paint. In that order each trade works once, inspections happen in sequence, and nothing finished has to be cut open later.

Living through it or moving out

Phasing is the decision that shapes the schedule. Moving out lets the crews work the whole house at once, which is the fastest and cleanest path. Staying means we build in phases, keeping one bathroom and a working kitchen or a temporary one, and sealing the finished areas off from dust. Phasing adds weeks because trades come back several times, and it is harder on a family than most people expect. We lay out both schedules with the quote so you decide with the real difference in front of you. The duration varies with the house, and we give a typical range after the site visit.

Keeping the house itself

Most houses in Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga and San Jose date from the 1950s through the 1980s, and the best whole-home remodels keep what is good about them: the low rooflines, the connection to the yard, the proportions of the rooms. That means opening the kitchen to the living space without flattening every wall, keeping ceiling heights and window rhythms consistent between old and new, and choosing finishes that suit the era rather than fighting it. A remodel that erases the house tends to read as a flip. One that respects it reads as a home that was always this good.

Questions we get

Do you do whole-home remodels in Campbell and the South Bay?
Yes. Our office is at 2272 Camden Avenue in Campbell, and we remodel whole homes in Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, San Jose, Cupertino and across the Bay Area as design-build projects. We hold California CSLB License #975092 and have been licensed since 2012.
What does design-build mean for a whole-home remodel?
One company designs and builds the project under one contract. The people drawing the plan are the people pricing and building it, so decisions about layout, structure and finishes are made with construction in mind, and there is one accountable team when something has to change mid-project.
Where should we start?
With the systems and the layout, not the finishes. We assess the panel, the plumbing, the furnace and the insulation first, then settle the floor plan, and only then pick cabinets, tile and fixtures. Starting with finishes usually means redesigning once the structural and systems work is understood.
Do we need permits for a whole-home remodel?
Yes. Structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work all require permits, and a whole-home remodel involves all of them. We handle the permit process with your city's building department, including the engineering and the inspections.
How long does a whole-home remodel take?
Design and permitting typically run a few months, and construction commonly runs several months to a year depending on the scope, the phasing and the city's review. It varies by house, and we give a schedule with the quote after a site visit.
