Warm tile, every morning.
Silicon Valley Kitchen & Bath Co. installs electric radiant floor heating in bathrooms across the Bay Area from our office in Campbell. The heating cable sits under the tile, runs on a programmable thermostat, and is easiest and least expensive to add while the bathroom is already being remodeled.

How it works
A thin electric heating cable is set into the floor assembly just below the tile, with a sensor that reports the floor temperature to a wall thermostat. You schedule it like a furnace: warm at 6:30 on weekday mornings, off while you are at work. Tile and stone conduct the heat well, which is why bathrooms are the ideal room for it.
During a remodel or as a retrofit
When the floor is already open, heat is a small addition to work that is happening anyway. As a standalone retrofit, the existing tile has to come up and the floor has to be rebuilt, which is why the same feature costs several times more on its own.
In the shower too
The same system can extend into a curbless shower floor and bench when it is coordinated with the waterproofing. It is a detail we plan at design, not on site.
Questions we get
- Is it cheaper to add heated floors during a remodel?
- Yes, by a wide margin. When the floor is already open, heat is a small addition to the job. As a standalone retrofit the tile comes up and the floor is rebuilt, so the same feature costs several times more.
- Are heated floors expensive to run?
- No. A bathroom floor is a small area on a schedule, so it draws power for a few hours a day. For most homes it is a minor addition to the electric bill.
- Can heated floors go under any tile?
- They work under porcelain, ceramic and natural stone. Tile and stone are the best partners because they conduct and hold the heat.
- Do you install heated floors near Campbell?
- Yes. We are based in Campbell and install heated floors as part of bathroom remodels in San Jose, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino and throughout the Bay Area. CSLB License #975092.
